Bollywood (Hindi: बॉलीवूड) is the informal term popularly used for the Mumbai-based Hindi language film industry in India. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema; it is only a part of the Indian film industry.[1] Bollywood is the largest film producer in India and one of the largest in the world.[2][3][4]
The name is a portmanteau of Bombay (the former name for Mumbai) and Hollywood, the center of the American film industry.[5] However, unlike Hollywood, Bollywood does not exist as a physical place. Though some deplore the name, arguing that it makes the industry look like a poor cousin to Hollywood,[5][6] it has its own entry in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Bollywood is often referred to as Hindi cinema, even though frequent use of poetic Urdu words is fairly common. There has been a growing presence of Indian English in dialogue and songs as well. It is not uncommon to see films that feature dialogue with English words and phrases, even whole sentences. There is a growing number of films made entirely in English.[7]
It is wedding time in Bollywood with two of our most gorgeous actresses tying knots with their hubby. Actress Amrita Arora got married to Shakeel Ladak by Catholic rituals at Olive restaurant in Mumbai. The wedding was graced by Bollywood biggies that include Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Zayed Khan with their wives along with Twinkle and Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia, Urmila Matondkar, Priyanka Chopra, Mehr and Arjun Rampal, Manish Malhotra, Tusshar Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan to name a few. However, there was an initial disappointment when the got a call from the Mt Mary Basilica stating that the wedding ceremony would not be possible because of security issues.
Also, this March, beautiful Ayesha Takia married her long time boyfriend Farhan. Her wedding took place on March 1, 2009 in Mumbai. They had a quiet nikaah as per Islamic tradition. Only family members attended the wedding ceremony which was a simple, private affair with only near and dear ones invited. On the night of 2 March, Ayesha and Farhan gave a party to their friends and other friends from the industry.

Bollywood star Preity Zinta made a surprise visit to the McClean park, moments before the toss in the first ODI between India and New Zealand there to cheer The Kings Eleven Punjab, an IPL franchisee co-owned by Zinta.
“I have been invited by the New Zealand Prime Minister and will be attending the official function hosted for the Indian team on March 5 at Wellington,” said Preity, who looked gorgeous as ever clad in faded blue jeans and a blood-red top.
Preity briefly met Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Irfan Pathan before the start of the match and wished them well. “I met Yuvraj, Dhoni and Irfan briefly. Nothing much,” she revealed.
Indian team moral was already down by white wash in T20 series. But it seems her present has worked magic and Indian team won that day’s match.
‘Slumdog Millionaire‘ has not only brought Oscars and other awards for its crew but post award laurels too. After Dev Patel and Freida Pinto who have been singed by some of the big production houses in Bollywood, it is the turn of the Irrfan Khan who has been offered a lead role by the production house of ‘Slumdog Millionaire”, the Fox-Searchlight.
In a candid talk with media, Irrfan disclosed some staggering fact about his new offer and release of ‘Slumdog Millionaire, ‘Irrfan had this to say,
“The studio head Peter Rice came to me and said he’d now like to make a film with me in the lead. Do you know Peter Rice is responsible for the film’s release? Otherwise it was going straight into a DVD release. Danny Boyle was in a panic mode and was ready to take the DVD offer. But the makers decided to take the film to Toronto and show it to Fox-Searchlight. They chased me all over the world to get some lines re-done, took the film to Toronto. Luckily, Fox-Searchlight loved SM.”
Now he is also counted among Six Bollywood stars that make an impression over Hollywood in a feature written in ‘Forbes’ magazine. Irfan previously has worked in Hollywood movies, ‘The Namesake’ and ‘A Mighty Heart. However, he gave credit to the success of the movie to Little Stars, who won the heart of movie lovers through out the globe. Now after the success of Slum Dog Millionaire, it seems that Hollywood and Bollywood come more nearer to each other and would produce some good movies.
Her recent releases ‘Fashion’ and ‘Dostana’ saw her in ultra glam roles with trendy mini skirts and even a bikini. Now, Priyanka Chopra is set for an image makeover with Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminay’ in an all de-glam role. Priyanka plays a college going girl in the movie and to make her look at par with the character, she had to forego makeup in the film.
“In terms of look, it’s definitely not glamorous. In fact, you don’t really see me wearing too much make up in the film,” Priyanka told.
Speaking about her character in the film, Priyanka says: “Sweety is a very real character. She is a college-going girl in her early 20s and we have tried to keep her extremely believable. We tried to ensure that the look fits the characterization.”
Priyanka says that she had absolutely no apprehension about going de-glam for her role, “It was a conscious decision. I have always striven to do different things in each and every film of mine, be it with the character or the look. That’s visible in films like ‘Don’, ‘Love Story 2050′, ‘Fashion’ and ‘Dostana’. In continuation of that, ‘Kaminay’ and ‘What’s Your Rashee’ (by Ashutosh Gowariker) will see me essaying different characters, far removed from what I have ever played. I am very excited about both!”
’Kaminay’ is set to release on June 5 and the film will also see chocolate boy Shahid Kapoor in double roles.
This time, the foruth series of popular TV show ‘Indian Idol’ was unique as the show finally got its first female winner in the form of Sourabhee Debbarma, who won title of ‘Indian Idol 4′ on Sunday ruling out her close contestants the Bengali girl Torsha Sarkar and army man Kapil Thapa. The 22 year old girl who surprisingly has had no professional training in music walked away with a Rs.10 million contract with Sony TV and a car. The result was based on public voting.
The celebrity guests of the finale included Bollywood stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, who had come to promote their forthcoming film ‘New York’.
Others from the Indian film and music industry, including judges Javed Akhtar, Anu Malik, Kailash Kher and Sonali Bendre, too were present to cheer the finalists.
This March, two of our beautiful Bollywood ladies will be tying the knot. First is Ayesha Takia and another one is Amrita Arora who is all for her big day on March 6. Amrita and her beau Shakeel Ladakh threw a grand party for their close friends on March 1. The celebrations have been planned for a stretch of over three days: There will be a church wedding on March 4, a sangeet on March 5 and the nikaah and reception on March 6. Best friend Kareena Kapoor is going to be one of the bridesmaids and sister Malaika Arora, the maid of honour.
Amrita’s wedding gowns and also the bridesmaids’ clothes have been designed by Ashley Rebello. The mehendi outfit will be by Manish Malhotra and Shantanu-Nikhil are designing the traditional wedding lehenga.
Though Kangana Ranaut is still far behind in the race for top Bollywood heroines, there is no denying the fact that Kangana has managed to make her presence felt in this competitive world of Bollywood. She will soon be seen in her sexiest best in ‘Kites’ with Hrithik Roshan.

The event saw the attendance of many celebrities including Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone, Harman Baweja, Miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Zeenat Aman, Ramesh Sippy, Yukta Mookhey, Yash Chopra, and Farah Khan. Hot babe of Bollywood Celina Jaitley gave rocking performance at the event.
No doubt, success and one big like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is obvious to be stressed out all involved in the project including innocent kids from the slums of Mumbai, who played an outstanding role in the success of the movie as being a very integral part of the storyline of the movie.
However, cost of this huge success and fame was paid by 10 year old actor from the movie, Azharuddin Mohammed who was slapped and kicked by his father, Ismail when the over stressed and tired kid refused to attended byte and news hungry reporters standing outside his home. This shocked all the persons presented at the spot.
Though Ismail repented later on he said, “I was very sorry that I did what I did,” said Ismail. “I was so confused and stressed by my son’s homecoming that I did not know myself for a minute. I love my boy and I am very happy to have him home.” Whatever may be the cause behind for the outburst reflected by Ismail, no one can deny that success and fame do contribute in making on insensitive towards basic human values.
They have earned all at such a tender age after the huge success of “SlumDog Millionaire”, homes, stipends, benefits for their families and a trip to the U.S. The little stars from the slums of the Mumbai now are coming to the real term after receiving 8 Oscars and Best Director and Best Picture award for them.
Stars from the movie Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Ayush Mahesh Khedekar who played young Salim and Jamal in the film was some how happy as well as nervous after receiving the warm welcome and crowd of paparazzi at the airport. Azharuddin was anyway expecting to face bombardment of scribes in India. However, Ayush seemed well customizing to the trend and have a smile on his face, despite being crowded. Anyway, whatever was the pervious status of these kids or present frame of mind they have brought Oscars.
